Gerard Geytenbeek (Utrecht, 19 April 1934 – Zwijndrecht, 15 May 2008) was a Dutch furniture designer and architect, best known for his mid-century furniture designs.
His work was characterised by simple, clean lines and optimum functionality, using high-quality materials such as luxury woods and leather.
Geytenbeek found inspiration in the work of Gerrit Rietveld and had connections with the Institute for Industrial Design in Amsterdam. He believed that good design should be both aesthetic and practical and strove to combine the two. Several of his designs were awarded prestigious design prizes.
Offered here is a beautiful round dining table designed by Gerard Geytenbeek, finished in a wenge finish. The table features a dark wooden top with a striking wood grain and is supported by a unique base of cross-legged legs, creating a sculptural and modern effect.
Geytenbeek designed this table in the 1960s, and it was produced by AZS Furniture in the Netherlands. This design is sometimes mistakenly attributed to Martin Visser for 't Spectrum, but it is actually a Geytenbeek creation.
The table has a generous diameter of 150 cm and comfortably seats six chairs.
A special feature of this table is that the top is divided into three sections and can be easily disassembled for transport. The wenge finish gives the piece a very luxurious appearance.
This design was praised at the time for its functionality and aesthetics, and is now a sought-after collector's item among mid-century design enthusiasts.
The table was later also sold under the name 'Plane Tree' , but was usually made with round poles as a base and a white top.
This example is in very nice and immediately usable condition, and already provided with a protective coating against dirt, grease and moisture.
